CUTTLEFISH -Neptune triggers have proven effective in catching cuttlefish. In the UK, a developing cuttlefish pot fishery produces a top quality product. Neptune equipped cuttlefish pots are gaining recognition as the best catching pots in the fishery. Neptune triggers and Neptune equipped pots are available in England through GT Products in West Sussex (gtproducts@mistral.co.uk) and Sylvie Edgell in Devon (ess-kay@talk21.com).
SQUID - Common fishing methods for squid include jigging and using mobile trawl nets. The use of lights to attract squid to a jig fishing boat might provide a method to attract squid to Neptune modified squid pots. Pots with a light source in the center will attract squid to the light. Whether they will go through Neptune triggers remains to be seen. Cuttlefish and Octopus don't seem to have a problem getting through Neptune triggers. It is very likely that the aggressive oceanic squid will find it easy to enter through Neptune's fingers. Squid pots could be deployed from a drifting vessel where they could be hung from the vessel's sides, stern and bow as well as from extended poles. Pots could also be designed to be midwater traps and could be longlined if it proved feasible.

Cuttlefish Traps with Neptune Triggers
OCTOPUS - In the Alaska cod pot fishery, octopus is a common bycatch species in pots equipped with Neptune cod triggers. It is commonly sold for food or bait. The octopus that are commonly caught are the larger ones that have difficulty escaping through the pot's mesh. No pot designs directed specifically for octopus are in use at this time. The success of Neptune triggers in retaining octopus in Alaskan cod pots leads you to believe that other pot designs featuring Neptune triggers might prove effective in directed fisheries for octopus.
