NEPTUNE OFFERS THE FOLLOWING TRIGGER CHOICES FOR YOUR CATCH-ALL TRAP:

For Alaskan fishermen interested in catching Dungeness, King and Tanner crab, with CATCH-ALL pots, Neptune recommends using Trigger model numbers MF 105 and RF 55. For fishermen catching Dungeness crab, Neptune recommends using the OverHang style. Lobster fishermen should contact Neptune for trap and trigger options.

Neptune Triggers can be used to modify existing crab pots, lobster traps, and fish traps. Trigger making components can be purchased separately and self assembled to suit your needs. See Trap Entrance Devices for component prices.

BALLAST YOUR TRAP TO SUIT YOUR NEEDS

Fishermen that haul traps by hand will want to have a lighter trap. Other fishermen that use power haulers might want to fish heavier traps. The COMMERCIAL model trap weighs 19 lb and probably suits the needs of most fishermen. The SPORT and SHORT SPORT model weigh around 9 lb. and probably should have some additional weight added. Numerous methods are available to add weight to your traps. They include using, brick, steel, concrete pieces, or rocks.

Neptune recommends using bricks or steel. Common bricks are a low cost option to add weight to your trap. Each brick measures 8"x 4"x 2" and weighs around 5 lb. You would add the number of bricks to suit your needs. No matter how many bricks are used, make sure they are secured in an evenly spaced arrangement. This will insure that trap lands properly. Bricks can be secured with twine or plastic ties. Neptune offers bricks for sale at $.35 each.

Steel rods or concrete rebar can be used to add weight to your traps. Rebar weighs around 1.5 lb per foot for ¾" rebar and around 1 lb per foot for 5/8" rebar. Neptune offers pre-cut 33" pieces of rebar to ballast your trap. Weight per 33" piece of 5/8" rod is 2.8 lb and sells for $1.75 each. Weight for the 33" piece of ¾" rod is 4.1 lb and they sell for $2.50 each.
